Review - Peter Lehmann Eight Songs Shiraz 2002
Peter Lehmann Eight Songs Shiraz 2002
From the coolest Barossa vintage on record the 2002 Eight Songs Shiraz is densely black coloured with a garnet rim. The bouquet is fragranced by rich and juicy fruit essences of dark chocolate-dipped ripe plums, cherries and blackberries with a hint of smokiness and tar.
Thedistinct Northern Rhone nose of this wine gives way to a characteristic classic Australian palate with a finish that seems to go on eternally.Dark, deep and powerful the palate alludes to exotic spices as the flavours endure persist on the muscular finish. Described as Shiraz at its voluptuous best, the flavour finishes with a deliciously velvet feel of the mouth.
This distinguished bottle of Shiraz has clearly benefited from a little bottle age and although it is currently very approachable it will continue to develop in the bottle over the next 8 to10 years. The Eight Songs Shiraz strongly reflects the outstanding quality of the Peter Lehamann 2002 red wine vintage with exceptional fruit concentration and structure.
This Shiraz is served most optimally with braised lamb shanks, rare beef, and richly flavouredcasseroles. This wine is also superb served simply with aged cheddar cheeses.
