Red Wine is produced from crushed dark skinned grapes, which remain in contact with the grape skins - from which colour is extracted - during fermentation. The grapes used for red wine don't typically have a red flesh, the rare exceptions being teinturier grapes like alicante bouschet.

A blended wine is one where the fermented juice of one variety is joined with that of another - or others. Blending can also encompass different vintages in such a way to ensure that they always taste the same.

Strictly speaking, a single varietal is a wine made from one grape variety only. However rules change from region to region where a single varietal may contain a small amount of another variety. In Australia, 80% of the wine must come from the named variety whilst in the US - it is 75%.
